The environmental science and engineering discipline of Guangdong University of Technology was the first (1983) to recruit environmental engineering undergraduates in Guangdong Province. Existing post-doctoral research station of environmental science and engineering, first-level discipline doctoral program and first-level discipline master program of environmental science and engineering, engineering master degree program of resource and environmental engineering; four undergraduate programs of environmental engineering, environmental science, environmental ecological engineering, and safety engineering. Environmental science and engineering is the key disciplines of Guangdong Province, and environmental engineering is a national characteristic major, a national first-class undergraduate and a famous major in Guangdong Province, and has passed the engineering education professional certification. In 2018, it was selected as the key construction discipline of the Guangdong Higher Education "Strengthening the First-Class, Filling up the Shortcomings, and Strengthening the Characteristics" Promotion Plan. In July 2019, environmental science/ecology disciplines entered the top 1% of ESI global discipline rankings. The professional laboratory covers an area of over 6000 square meters, and the total value of teaching and research equipment is more than 60 million yuan.

The school has one national engineering practice education center, one provincial experimental teaching demonstration center, 22 standardized off-campus practice bases, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Environmental Catalysis and Health Risk Control, Guangdong Provincial Department of Education Key Laboratory of Comprehensive Utilization of Resources and Cleaner Production, Guangzhou Key Laboratory of Environmental Catalysis and Pollution Control, Guangdong Province Solid Waste Recycling and Harmless Engineering Technology Research Center, Guangdong Photocatalysis Technology Integration and Equipment Engineering Technology Research Center, Guangdong Provincial Industrial Pollution Remediation Technology and Equipment Engineering Technology Research Center and other 6 scientific research platforms above the provincial level.It has condensed the three major disciplines of environmental ecological planning and restoration, environmental behavior and health effects of pollutants, and environmental pollution control theory and technology. Six major scientific research teams built based on water resources and water environment, wastewater, waste gas, solid waste pollution control and ecological restoration, environmental health, and environmental safety. Focusing on the major environmental protection needs of the country and Guangdong Province, the school carries out basic application and industrialization research, forms a complete innovation platform system of basic research, technology research and development application. The school focus on cultivating the ability to adapt to economic and social development and ecological environmental protection requirements, and has innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities of high-quality talents.
